Facebook oversight board to announce its decision on Trump Ban

The Facebook and Instagram Content Supervisory Board will announce its decision on the continued suspension of former President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

The independent board, which supposedly has the power to bypass Facebook, said in mid-April that it had collected more than 9,000 comments from the public and was reviewing them.

The board generally takes 90 days to review disagreements and its decision on Trump is expected in March. Five of the board members review the issue, but their decision must be approved by a majority of the board members.

Facebook banned Trump from its platform on January 7 after the January 6 breach of the Capitol. The company's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, claimed at the time that Trump had not condemned the violence. Trump urged his supporters to peacefully protest and urged the crowd to return home after news of violence emerged. The people who violated the Capitol are a small fraction of the large crowd that gathered in Washington to hear Trump speak.

In a video posted on the day of who breached, Trump told his supporters, "Go home in peace," but also said "We love you" and "You are so special," sparking accusations that he was talking to the rapist. Rather than the largest peaceful crowd.

Later, Facebook said that Trump's comment would be indefinite and moved to remove all content featuring his voice, including an interview with the president by his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump.
