Egypt plans to reopen a Libyan embassy, which has been closed since 2014

Egypt intends to reopen its embassy in the Libyan capital for the first time in six years, according to Libyan officials and security sources, marking a shift towards a more conciliatory approach with the factions based in western Libya.

The scheduled reopening, which was discussed by a visiting Egyptian delegation in Tripoli on Monday and Tuesday, comes at a time when a new interim government will be formed in the latest efforts mediated by the United Nations to unify the two rival camps in eastern and western Libya.

Two Egyptian intelligence sources said that the timing of the reopening of the embassy will be determined after the delegation consults with senior officials about its return to Egypt. They said that the reopening was the first step towards greater political, economic, and security cooperation with the Tripoli authorities.
