Capitol Police Officer Dies After Protests in Washington DC

Police confirmed in a statement that the Capitol police officer died Thursday night of his wounds while on duty in response to the unrest that erupted amid civil unrest in Washington DC.


The officer, Brian Secnick, died around 9:30 pm. In a public statement, the US Capitol Police Department (USCP) said it "expresses its deepest condolences to Officer Sicknick's family and friends for his loss, and regrets the loss of a friend and colleague."


His death will be investigated by the DC Police Department's Homicide Division, the USCP, and their federal partners.


Gop and Dem Lawmakers in Congress expressed on Twitter their torrential condolences over the news of the officer's death.
