During a press conference on Wednesday, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Tod Wolters, the head of U.S. Europe Command, saying the United States is not training Ukrainian forces in Poland.
The president's remarks come after Biden told reporters on Monday that he had been talking to U.S. troops helping Ukraine train forces in Poland last week, a possibility that had previously been ruled out by U.S. officials.
When pressed again on this matter, Biden said, "I meant that I would be speaking with the Ukrainian troops in Poland."
“I do not believe that we are in the process of currently training military forces from Ukraine in Poland,” Wolters said on Tuesday.
“There are liaisons that are there,” Wolters added. “They’re being given advice, and that’s different than I think (what) you’re referring to with respect to training.”
During the conflict in Ukraine, the United States and other Western countries have largely limited their military assistance to intelligence sharing and heavy assistance with arms supplies, including anti-aircraft and anti-tank systems.
