Ukrainian government to receive $4.5 billion from Biden administration

The U.S. Agency for International Development announced on Monday that it will provide another $4.5 billion to help keep the Ukrainian government afloat.

After almost six months of full-scale war with Russia, the USAID anticipates Ukraine will receive the first payment of $3 billion from the $4.5 billion later this month.

US Department of Defense announced a $1 billion "security assistance" package following USAID's announcement, aimed at helping Ukraine meet its "critical security and defense needs."

According to the Pentagon, this $1 billion package provides Ukrainians with "significant amounts of ammunition, weapons, and equipment" for their war effort. As part of this operation, 75,000 155mm artillery rounds, 20,000 120mm mortar rounds, 1,000 Javelins, and hundreds of AT4 anti-armor systems will be delivered.

“These funds provided by the United States, through the World Bank, allow the Government of Ukraine to maintain essential functions to its people, including social and financial assistance to Ukrainians further pushed into poverty since the start of the war, children with disabilities, and internally displaced persons,” the agency said.
