Ukraine would be able to purchase air defense systems, artillery systems, radars, and other military equipment with the $3 billion.

A $40 billion package signed by Biden in May is one of several aid packages approved by Congress.

A Russian invasion of Ukraine took place in February.

“The United States of America is committed to supporting the people of Ukraine as they continue the fight to defend their sovereignty,” Biden, a Democrat, said in a statement.

As part of Ukraine's independence day celebrations, Biden made the announcement. It was in 1991 that Ukraine gained independence. The country was a part of the Soviet Union in the past.

Several US aid packages totaling $775 million were announced in August, including $10.6 billion committed prior to Biden's announcement.

There are some legislators in the United States who support continuing to give aid to Ukraine.
