The WHO says it would be `` very speculative '' to say that COVID has not appeared in China

The World Health Organization's chief emergency expert said on Friday it would be "very speculative" for the WHO to say that the coronavirus did not appear in China, as it was first identified in a food market in December last year.

“I think it’s highly speculative for us to say that the disease did not emerge in China,” Mike Ryan said at a virtual briefing in Geneva after being asked if COVID-19 could have first emerged outside China.

The Trump administration has accused the WHO of "being China-centered," accusations it has repeatedly denied.
