The United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution Tuesday calling for fair and affordable access to COVID-19 vaccines at fair prices.
The text, endorsed by more than 130 countries and adopted by consensus at the Geneva forum, affirmed the right of states to use the flexibility of existing World Trade Organization (WTO) rules on intellectual property for COVID-19 vaccines.
"The European Union welcomes the ability of the Council to speak with one voice today on the issue of fair, affordable, timely, and comprehensive access to vaccines," said Austrian Ambassador Elizabeth Tecchi-Weiselberger, on behalf of the European Union.
