Trump's lawyers have asked a federal judge to reject the Justice Department's request to keep reviewing the documents taken during the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago.
According to Trump's lawyers, the FBI agents may not have taken classified documents on Aug. 8. Trump also had the freedom to declassify presidential documents while president, and he has a “right to access” any presidential records, regardless of whether they are classified or declassified, the attorneys said.
“In what at its core is a document storage dispute that has spiraled out of control, the Government wrongfully seeks to criminalize the possession by the 45th President of his own Presidential and personal records,” Trump’s team wrote to federal Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee.
