The Biden Administration will hand out 400 million free masks

The White House said on Jan. 19 that starting next week, 400 million N95 masks would be made available to the American people for free.

That comes only days after the Centers for Disease Control and Preventive (CDC) stated that N95 masks give better protection than cotton masks.

Masks have been demonstrated in studies to have various levels of efficiency in terms of both protecting the wearer and preventing infected people from transmitting the virus.

The best mask “is the one that you will wear and the one you can keep on all day long, that you can tolerate in public indoor settings,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said on Jan. 12.

The free masks will be provided by the federal govt's Strategic National Stockpile, which contains approximately 750 million masks. The masks will be mailed out this week, with delivery beginning late next week at pharmacies and community health centers, according to the White House.
