Anthony Blinken, the secretary of state, said the Biden administration sought to bring together the international coalition opposing Russia's invasion of Ukraine into a wider coalition against China, which the administration views as a longer-term threat to the world order.
Blinken laid out a three-pillar approach to competing with Beijing in a race to define the economy and military balance of the 21st century in a speech that outlined the administration's China policy.
“Even as President Putin’s war continues, we will remain focused on the most serious long-term challenge to the international order — and that is the one posed by the People’s Republic of China,” Blinken said.
According to Blinken, the administration views China as a greater threat to international stability than Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine.
