On Tuesday, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed Ukraine's first lady, Olena Zelenska, to the White House ahead of her address to Congress on Wednesday.

She received flowers from the president, who met her vehicle outside, as her husband, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, embraced her and presented her with them.

A school that was sheltering displaced Ukrainians was visited by Jill Biden during a surprise trip to Ukraine in May, after Russia invaded the country on February 24.

His wife's meetings in Washington should produce "significant results," Zelenskyy later said.

Her tasks include increasing U.S. support for Ukraine, obtaining additional support to “protect people from Russian terror” and boosting humanitarian assistance, he said in a late-night video address.
