Pentagon Promises ‘strong Support’ of Israel Amid Conflict With Hamas and Palestinians

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed on May 12 that the United States has "strong support" for Israel's right to defend itself in the midst of a military conflict with Hamas, according to a Pentagon statement.


This comes at a time when Israeli officials said that 16 members of the military wing of Hamas were killed in airstrikes after militants from Hamas and Islamic Jihad fired numerous rockets at Israel.


Defense Department spokesman John Kirby confirmed that Austin spoke with Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz on May 12.“Austin conveyed the Department’s ironclad support for Israel’s legitimate right to defend itself and its people,” Kirby said
