Writer: Capitol TimesCapitol Times

As Omicron infections, which account for over 98 percent of cases in the United States, grow, Google has ordered weekly COVID-19 tests and surgical masks for staff at its sites.

According to Reuters, a Google spokeswoman remarked, "To assist prevent the further spread of COVID-19 during this period of heightened danger, we're adopting new temporary health & security safeguards for anybody browsing our sites in the United States."

Google is providing free at-home testing kits to all family members for remote employees. According to a series of critical Twitter tweets from the Alphabet Labour Union, full-time employees would have access to Cue Health tools that provide fast results, while contractors will receive the mail-in BioIQ tests.

Omicron has quickly spread throughout the country, although the highly transmissible version has minor symptoms and requires much fewer hospitalization than the Delta variety.
