As part of upcoming legislation to fund government, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) blasted Republicans for not ending fossil fuel permits.
Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) negotiated the $700 billion Inflation Reduction Act behind closed doors, which resulted in the legislation's passage. It was revealed that Schumer agreed to buy Manchin the votes to reform fossil fuel permitting laws as part of the deal.
At present, the process of permitting new fossil fuel ventures can take several years. In light of high gas prices and the fact that Europe is preparing for a veritable energy crisis this winter, Senator Manchin has called for reforming this process.
