The Hill reported Tuesday that the batch of tough legislation that Democrats had hoped to pass in anticipation that it would do well in the congressional elections is now facing major hurdles after the Republicans win the House and appear to be maintaining a majority in the Senate.
Even if the Democrats win, at best, in the two rounds of the two-seat Senate election in Georgia, their task will remain formidable.
"It's always better to be in the majority, of course, but the 50-50 ratio itself is very difficult," said Jim Manley, a former aide to former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. "It is very difficult to imagine anything that can be done."
Regardless of who wins the Georgia election, Democrats will likely need help from Republicans with most laws.
