Democratic opposition to McConnell's election law proposal

Democracies are expressing skepticism over Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell's (Ky) openness to discussing election law changes. They accuse him of distracting from filibuster reform efforts.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's decision to consider reforming an Electoral College law passed in 1887 comes as Democrats try to cut an agreement with Sens Joe Manchin (D-WVa) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) to reduce the federal legislative filibuster in exchange for broader voting rights reforms.

Top Republican figures claim the conference is genuinely interested in studying the law - which outlines how Congress counts the Electoral College results, as it did on Jan 6 - but the timing clearly raises concerns among top Democrats and activists.
