The White House said President Biden supports Facebook and other major tech companies that are taking steps to combat disinformation and misinformation after the Facebook censorship board confirmed the tech giant's decision to suspend former President Donald Trump.
“The president’s view is that the major platforms have a responsibility related to the health and safety of all Americans to stop amplifying untrustworthy content, disinformation, and misinformation, especially related to COVID-19, vaccinations, and elections. And we’ve seen that over the past several months, broadly speaking. I’m not placing any blame on any individual or group; we’ve seen it from a number of sources,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters in Washington.
Biden answered questions after commenting later in the day but was not asked about the decision.
Facebook's Supervisory Board, a supposedly independent body that can overturn the company's decisions, said early Wednesday that the tech giant correctly suspended Trump in January after violating the United States Capitol Building.
