At least four people were shot dead in central Israel, police say

At least four people in a central Israeli city were killed by a gunman on Tuesday. Police were able to shoot him dead, preventing a much more serious attack, a police spokesperson said.


A spokesperson for the police department, Eli Levy, said that the officers had encountered the attacker "while on routine patrol".


Despite the lack of clear circumstances, the incident appeared to be similar to a string of attacks by Arab assailants leading up to the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the date of the Gaza war anniversary.


Israel's second mass shooting rampage this week occurred when a man on a motorcycle attacked.
